| About GeoPreservation | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Concerned that millions of nationally important digital information resources are in danger of being lost or corrupted, the Library of Congress has partnered with eight institutions to begin a three year $15 million effort to build a nationwide digital collection and preservation system. While long-term preservation work has begun for other digital information types (images, text, web sites) by such groups as PREMIS (http://www.oclc.org/research/projects/pmwg/), little discussion has taken place on what is needed to archive geospatial data. Both UCSB and Stanford have joined together to form the National Geospatial Digital Archive (NGDA), a project to investigate issues related to archiving geospatial images and data (http://ngda.org/index.php). To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the GeoPreservation Archives. (The current archive is only available to the list members.) |
